Review: Tarts, Northbridge

I've visited Tarts quite a few times and hadn't intended on going today but when I was told the Sayer's Sister kitchen was closed (at 2.30pm) and was ravenous for more than a piece of cake, I took my disappointed self to Tarts for a late brunch (more like a 'lunner' it was that late).

I've had an obsession with potato cakes since I had a life changing order from Blend Cafe in Melville, so when I saw the 'Potato Head' on the menu, I HAD TO have it!

'Potato Head': two poached eggs, wilted spinach, mushrooms, asparagus, potato cake and hollandaise sauce.

The 'Potato Head' did not disappoint. The potato cake was thin, crispy and well seasoned, the mushrooms were buttery and the eggs were near perfect.

The dish was rich and filling and really hit the spot. On a scale of 0 to Blend's Potato Cake, I'd rate it a 9. If I were to order it again, I'd add cooked tomato to my order. I don't think it necessarily needs it, but it would be a nice addition.

What makes Blend's potato cake better?  It's similar to Tarts' minus the spinach, but with the addition of avocado and homemade baked beans. The potato cake is also thicker than Tart's. I often order it with a side of bacon (because everything is better with bacon!)

Would I return?
Yes! I like Tarts - I think it's a great little cafe and the gift shop is a fun distraction.
