I've been trying to hangout at The Hangout for years but everytime we go (even though Urbanspoon says they're open), they're either closed or closing. I finally got there one sunny winter day in July with my friend Pen before a visit to the Cygnet Cinema to see Jersey Boys.
We had intended to have a coffee and cake date but when the friendly guy behind the bar mentioned alcohol, it didn't take much for us to change our tune and order a glass of sparkling ($9/glass) and an order of the polenta and sweet potato chips ($9.00).
Our drinks were served in a champagne saucer which had me tickled pink! I felt very sophisticated and glamorous as I sipped my cheeky afternoon beverage.
It may be strange for me to admit this but I don't like polenta and I really don't like polenta chips. I know... I'm as puzzled as you are that I agreed to share an order of polenta on a plate with Pen. I don't know what it is but I find them so bland and stodgy. Perhaps it was foodie intuition or I just got lucky but they were delicious! Crispy on the outside but light and fluffy on the inside and the Habanero mayo was a perfect condiment to accompany them.
I really want to return to Hangout for a meal. We actually tried to get a booking the weekend after (albeit an hour before we wanted to visit) but sadly they were fully booked.
